UPDATE:  BABY IKE is deemed unadoptable.  His cardiology appointment showed the following: Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis, Pulmonic Valve Stenosis, Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia, Mitral Valve Dysplasia, and severe stenosis of the left ventricle.  We will give him the best time of his life for the short time he has left on this earth.  SAS is deemed severe when the gradient pressure is 80mm Hg.  IKE's was 120mm Hg.

BABY IKE, like BABY SADIE, came to us from a shelter in the heart of puppymill country.  We are still seeking information on the breeder(s) of these pups.  Since many defects are inherited, we would like to ensure that either the breeder willingly stops producing litters with genetic defects, or, at the very least, will have fewer buyers of these puppies with such serious heart defects.  BABY IKE apparently was given away in the parking lot at Wal-Mart.  Unfortunately, this leaves no trail to the breeder.  Fostered by Ann in MO.
UPDATE:  June 13, 2006 - BABY IKE had another vet appointment today.  His medicine dosing was increased in order to bring his heart rate and respirations down to an acceptable level.  Although still quite puppy-ish, he is slowing down noticably.  The vet detected a new swishing noise, which is indicative that his condition is worsening.  Please keep IKE and his foster family in your thoughts.
UPDATE:  November 12, 2006 - BABY IKE took an unexpected turn today.  His vet drained two and one half liters of fluid from his belly area.  He received some Nitro as well as Lasix, and his Enalapril dosing was increased to help counter the physiological changes.  He is comfortable and is still enjoying life for the time being.  Sadly, it won't be long before this will change.  Please keep IKE and his foster family in your thoughts.
