My foster mom says I have a very pretty tail, and I wave it proudly as I trot around in my fenced in yard, but otherwise, I have just the slightest bit of wispy locks, and I hardly shed, so I require less brushing. I have high energy compared to a turtle, but I’m not unmanageable in any way. I love to lie around and be a house dog, but I also enjoy my days out in the sun. Autumn is my favorite season because I love to pounce on leaves. I am very polite on a leash (unless I find something worth investigating), though I’ve had no formal training.
I get attached very easily, so my foster mom hopes that I will find a very special permanent home so that I can make the most of my life and enrich the life of that special person that will provide me the home I deserve.
I can get along okay with other dogs, but need to get to know them first. I'm a bit nervous when meeting face to face, but am fine if crated next to a dog for a few days before meeting, so I can get used to the other dog. I like to fetch and retrieve, but won't play at all if another dog is vying for the ball. I prefer to avoid conflict.
I am curious about cats, and love to chase them. I won't hurt them, though. I am also fine with older kids, but since I don't like a lot of visitors, maybe no kids would be the better option. I have a very soft mouth, and take treats very gently. I love peanut butter, and will lick your finger clean!!
Hello, my name is BARTLEBY. I am about four years old. I am a smaller Red Irish Setter, medium energy and incredibly smart! I love to run and chase butterflies!!
I love to play in the water, and think the water dishes are great toys. I'd do best in a home where I am an only pup. I really love to sit and be loved on more than anything... well, almost anything. It's tough to beat food, ya know!
UPDATE: BART has turned into a little loverboy, although racing down the hall is apparently a mandatory exercise. He is so very gentle with people, and patiently sits and waits for lovings!! Once attached to his family, he can be very protective, so a home with minimal visitors is preferred. Fostered by Alissa in TN.
