Hi, my name is BUCKLEY and I'm four years old. I was abused in my first home, and I have a really bad scar on my head that I will carry with me forever and marks on my hips from getting really bad sores from being crated too much. One thing is certain - I will never go to a home like that again. After all, I am a loveable galoot. At least that is what my Mom is always saying. She calls me her big clown. I am a big guy—about 75 pounds. I love to eat. Mom feeds us all raw diet, but I like kibble, too. It just makes my teeth nasty and they are pearly white now so she doesn’t feed kibble very often. Besides, raw tastes better!!!
Since I love to run, and have had four acres here, I've been in red dog heaven, but I could make do with a bit less as long as I have a little room to stretch my long legs. Mom doesn’t know if I would jump a fence because I have never had to worry about it in the country.
I love stuffies and big fluffy beds, but I can’t be trusted alone with the big beds if you leave the house. For some reason, I take it out on the beds when I get stressed out. I don't like being left behind when my humans have to go out. I think they call it Spoiled Brat Syndrome. No wait - it's called Separation Anxiety. Yeah, that's it!
A home without small children would be best as I tend to be rambunctious with them and knock them down. As for cats, I have never hurt one and we have three here, but I do like to chase them sometimes. I do fine with other dogs as long as they aren’t confrontational. I won’t back down, but I really am a lover, not a fighter. Of course, I would do just fine as an only pet, too!
I love to be with people. I would love it if someone were home most of the time!! I really do love everyone, but sometimes certain people scare me. Mom thinks it must remind me of the guy who abused me when I was a pup, but we’ll never know for sure. I just tend to avoid some people, especially men wearing baseball caps.
Oh, and I tend to live up to the Irish reputation of being an opportunist. If I smell something good, I do tend to countersurf. Mom has to watch her coffee—that stuff is really good!! Can’t blame a guy for trying, right? I am crate trained, though due to my earlier abuse with them, Mom only tends to use it for short periods when she leaves the house. I am leash trained, though mom doesn’t use them much in the country, but when we go to the park or the vet, I walk very well.
I know most commands - sit, come, down, wait at the door before going out, etc - but I tend to be a bit stubborn on obeying so you have to be consistent and firm or else I’ll take full advantage of you. Mom wants you to know if I get to come and live with you, you must be one special home because she loves me too much to let me go to any place other than a very, very special home.
