Hi, my name is CHARLOTTE. I've not had the best life in my two short years... okay, so it's been downright dismal, but things are looking up for me now!
You see, I spent all my time in a crate in the yard. I didn't get to do anything at all, and had no friends to play with. Then one day, the police came and took me away. They said that I was not being treated right by my owner. All I know is that I can move around now, I have friends and toys to play with, and I get food and water on a regular basis. WOW!! I never want to leave this place!
I heard my foster mom talking about heartworms, and what a shame it was for such a sweet young girl to have to go through treatment. I think she was talking about me, and I am kind of scared. She said I am too skinny to start treatment just yet, but that my cough is troubling her. Gosh, I hope my cough isn't related to the heartworms, and that I can get cured as soon as possible, cuz I don't like making people worry about me!! Fostered by Ann in MO.

Update 6/2/08: I went to the Dog-ter today. He was not at all pleased with my health, or should I say lack thereof. In addition to heartworms, I have a sinus infection and pneumonia. I also have intestinal worms. My bloodwork was really bad in that I am severely anemic, and my WBC count is at 26,000.
At least they have a plan, and have given me lots of meds to try and make me all better! Right now, we are getting rid of the intestinal worms and the infection. Assuming I survive the pneumonia, they will take pictures of my heart and lungs in about a month to see what needs to be done to get rid of the heartworms.
Please send lots of Setter Zen for me, as I really am a sweet girl, and deserve to know what being a treasured companion is all about!!
Update 6/10/08: The antibiotics are working, and I am feeling much better!! I have also gained 13 pounds!! The Dog-ter rechecked my bloodwork, and my WBC is normal. The RBC's are up! They took pictures of my insides, and said my heart looks fine, but my lungs aren't so great.
I still need to put on some more weight before I can start treatment for heartworms. Please continue sending the Setter Zen, as I am very energetic, and will need to stay very calm for about six weeks. That will not be easy for me to do!!
Update 7/21/08: Tomorrow is the big day... I finally am starting treatment for heartworms. I have really enjoyed playing with the boyz over the last few days, and am going to miss running around and playing keep-away from them. Alas, crate rest is in my future for the next several weeks, and leash-walking is the only exercise I will get.
Anyway, I've put up several new pictures of me so you can see how good I look now. Please keep your paws crossed for me!
