Hi, my name is DARCY. My previous owner got sick, so her nephew contacted us. He thought I was around six, but the vet thinks I'm only four.
I have excellent house manners. I am very attentive to my humans, always wanting to interact and to please them. I want to spend time with them, and am happiest lounging by their feet. Sometimes, I will lay at attention, waiting to see what they might be doing next. I am always ready for a party (playing, training, enjoying an outing, etc.), and I thrive on the praises I get for doing everything correctly. I would be happiest with an active family who will include me in many activities and continue my training, and possibly let me try my paw at agility or rally (after I have had more socialization training).
I have learned a lot in my foster home - far too many things to list here, but my foster mom can tell you all about how smart I am, and how quickly I learn with positive reinforcement (I am very sensitive to yelling and stuff, but really shine when praised!). I am learning to be more accepting of a leash (one of my few hang-ups), but am becoming more comfortable with one since sometimes it means fun things! I have never tested the tall fence at my foster home.
I still struggle at times with barking while outside. Most of the time, I will lay out there quietly, studying the door, watching to see if anyone is watching or how soon I am going to be called in. I will quietly lay on the patio in a sphynx down just waiting for the release command. It's a "look at me" thing. I know that being quiet gets me the attention I desire.
I am a very friendly dog, but am not fully comfortable in my own skin when it comes to meeting a stranger. When set up with the same stranger a second time, I do fine. I needs just a little more work and dedicated effort to provide me with the correct life experiences in order for me to fully come out of my shell and into just living for the moment and the future. No longer a "diamond in the rough," I am an excellent companion dog, and should be the love of all time for the right person or family.
I am a very happy girl. I roo-roo excitedly when the humans return home, but will quiet easily. When exhilarated, following the quiet command is difficult for me. If involved in agility competition, I would be the one barking up a storm to cheer the other competitors on, as well as to roo-roo during reward laps. I have a willingness to quickly accept what is sought of me, and to work together as a team. I love strutting my stuff, and look pretty darn nice when I'm strutting, if I may say so myself!
