Hi, there! My name is FLYNN and I'm four years old. I used to be owned by a backyard breeder who only wanted me so that she could make money on my puppies. I lived outside all the time.
Boy, was I glad when she couldn't sell my puppies!! I heard that people were getting smart, and choosing not to support those people who breed for profit at the expense of the dogs. They say that other breeders are having the same problem, and some can't even give the puppies away!! (Remember that if you are looking to buy a puppy, and the pedigree doesn't have champions in the first or second generations, are they really worth what the breeder is asking? Probably not!!)
She didn't want me anymore since I wasn't making any money for her, so she advertised me as "Free To Good Home". Guess she didn't love me very much, did she...
The good news is that I am with SOS, and will never again be used for breeding. Oh, and I live INDOORS!! Boy, am I ever glad of that, cuz it's been pretty cold here lately.
I am a really calm girl for a four year old. I like to lie down while my foster mom works. Of course, I am always game for some lovings, and I do like to put my paws in my foster mom's lap. I am learning to play some, too. I'm starting to figure out tennis balls, and that rope tug game is pretty okay, too. I walk fairly well on a leash, and am learning basic commands.
When meeting other dogs, I am defensive at first, but am okay with them once I get to know them. The only dog I really like is DONTAY, cuz we've been together for several years. He lets me sit on top of him, and when we curl up together, he places his paw on top of me, kinda like he wants to hold me close. I don't let him or any other dog around me when I have food, though.
I was fine with the cat I met at the clinic. He didn't try to run from me, though, so I didn't get to show whether or not I would chase after him. I have been almost perfect in the house - no accidents, and I only tried to borrow a sheet of paper once. I am a little spoiled, though, and must have a little canned food mixed in with my kibble. Otherwise, I won't eat.
I do have a neat trick... I smile!! It's not your ordinary smile, though. I lift the corners of my lips (you know, way back by my ear flaps), which makes my nose wrinkle a little, and makes my eye narrow. Pretty cool, eh? I'll smile for you, too, if you are the right home for me!
Fostered by Alissa in TN.
Update 5/6/09: My buddy DONTAY went to his new home several weeks ago, and I was kinda lonely without him. I didn't like that one bit, so I quickly made friends with SHARA and JOLIE. They have both gone to their forever homes, too, so now I am friends with RILEY III. We run around and play together for hours, gnawing on each other and just having a good time being Setters. I really enjoy having an active playmate!!
I have gotten into trouble a couple more times, mainly borrowing paper (borrowing is my term... my foster mom calls it stealing). Maybe I just like the sound of paper being shredded when I am really bored. I'm also queen of the bed, and am selective of who can join me. I get in trouble for that, too.
When I'm not playing with RILEY III, I am busy stalking bees and butterflies. I am very patient, and wait for them to get within reach. I miss a lot, but every once in a while I catch one! If you have an active doggy that wants a playmate and butterflies in the yard, I'd love to come live with you!!
