Hi, I'm FRECKLES! The name seems to fit me very well, considering I have flecks all over me! I'm a spunky, petite, and very energetic three year old who loves to watch birds and chase their shadows.
My life started out rough. You see, I spent the first year or so as a puppy mill dog and missed out on getting socialization skills I would need for life. I guess that makes me a special needs dog, and it will take a very special person to be the right forever home for me.
The people at SOS feel that the best lifestyle for me is one that is very consistent day after day since I thrive on routines. Changes and surprises are scary and upsetting for me, so a home that is pretty quiet, laid back, and without a lot of visitors is best. Also, I am not suitable for regular outings since that removes me from my familiar surroundings.
I would prefer to be the only pet as I like to receive a lot of attention from my special person. I like to cuddle and will join you on the couch or bed. I am pretty good about following house rules if any furniture is off-limits.
I pick out a "safe zone", usually under the kitchen table, where I can retreat to if I get scared or overwhelmed. I like to hang out there when not exploring. chasing bird shadows, or gettting lovings.
When outside, sometimes I have to be reminded to go potty because chasing bird shadows is way more fun. I tell my foster mom that I need to go out by sniffing the floor and acting like I have ants in my pants (though I've never worn any pants to the best of my knowledge)! I've had no accidents in the house.
I do best with female humans. Face it - male humans are scary, so my forever home should primarily be "just us girls". I share my foster home with human kids and do fine with them, but I would not be a good family dog since homes with kids are generally more active, have lots of visitors, and are often noisy. I am very attached to my foster mom and will go to her for lovings and reassurance, but will ignore the other inhabitants.
I am crate trained and will go in when asked, but I prefer to lay under the kitchen table. I am crated at night, and when my foster family is not home. I am very excited to get out when they come home.
It will take me several days to start adjusting since I am initially shy, and will be pretty scared because of the change. I am also on the skinny side because I am very active. My special person will need to continue helping me adjust to life. If you feel that you are that special person, please fill out an application so that SOS can match us up. I'm excited to hear all about my new paw-picked forever home.
Thanks for looking!
