Save Our Setters, Inc.

IAN
Hello, my name is IAN (pronounced EYE-ann).  I am about 3 years old.  I am housetrained, and came into my foster home already knowing about sleeping on furniture, so I was a spoiled kid in my former home.  I am already happy and playful, and have started eating again.  You see, active kids like us Setters don't do well in shelters.

Notes from "Mom":
I sure wish all Setters would acclimate so quickly and easily!!  Initially, IAN had separation anxiety - I put him in the main pen (52" welded wire) and walked 50 feet to my truck to get my jacket.  I had one arm in the sleeve when I turned around to see a red arrow heading straight for me.  He either cleared or scaled the fence, and very quickly!!  He stayed right with me all evening except when crated for dinner.  He is doing better today - only time will tell whether this was just initial fear of losing sight of his new friend, or whether he does have separation anxiety.  I went out in the main pen with him late last night, and he showed no inclination to get out.  This morning, he was checking the perimeter and the gate in the second pen (5' chain link), but didn't try to climb it, but I was in the pen with him then, too.  He's been here just over 12 hours, and it is much too soon to try him while I can see him but he can't see me.

He is getting along with the others just fine - seems to be fairly submissive - doesn't return growls.  He knows basic commands, very friendly, very happy, but hates being crated.  He will settle in quickly, and get the routine down.  After that, we can do a more accurate assessment of him!!
