Save Our Setters, Inc.

LIAM
Hello, my name is LIAM.  I am about 2 1/2 years old and am very handsome!   My story is a sad one...  I was rescued from an abusive situation in CA when I was around 7 months old.  I then went to live with a lady, her husband and their 7 children for a year plus.  They divorced recently and I was left with the husband, who chained me to a tree in the backyard for around 6 months.  When the lady learned of this, she came and got me, but she couldn't keep me.  I then went to live with another lady who found out that an Irish Setter and a 1 year old do not always mix well.  You see, I was so starved for attention that I didn't want the competition from the needy baby.

I am very human oriented and very eager to please.  I know some commands, but obedience is not my strong suit.  I am very polite for the most part, and am learning things about life inside a home such as putting my face on the table at dinnertime is a no no.  I have enjoyed romping in the field and forest and swimming in lakes and ponds the last few days!!

I ride well, and am happiest when I am with my people.  I sit to be fed, and eat well, so getting some much needed weight on shouldn't be an issue.  I'm not food aggressive or food protective, so I should be fed separately in order for me to be able to enjoy my food without molestation.  I am not aggressive toward other dogs, but I don't take too well to being dominated, and will let the other dog know that in no uncertain terms.

I would do best with a family who would like to spend time with me in the great outdoors, kids would be fine but no youngsters.  I'm just too exuberant and don't know my own strength, so I k knock them over.  I am very happy to have my own bed, or could learn to cuddle with you on the sofa.  I am pretty good on lead, and don't pull... much.  I really love treats, and will hide them if other dogs are about.  I don't jump up on people, and will listen and calm down when I get a little too frisky.  I will playfully and gently mouth your hand when running or walking next to you.

Because of my unstable past, I do have a touch of separation anxiety, so I will need to be crated when you are away.  Regarding kenneling, we are working on that, as I have been known to tear up the bedding in the kennel and knock out the plastic tray in the bottom.  Once I start feeling secure, this will improve.  I am a true gentleman.

They had to shave portions of me due to matting, but the hair will grow back.  I really crave a firm foundation of love and discipline at this point.  I want to please people, and I learn quickly what is okay and what is not.   I am okay with cats, and have been known to pick up kittens and carry them around.  However, if the cat is afraid and runs, I become curious and will fixate on the kitty.
