Hi, my name is MAC and I'm reported to be eight years old. You know the saying about good things and small packages? Rumor has it they were talking about me! I am trustworthy in the house, and never bother anything while the humans are away. I am very calm for an Irishman. I love to go on walks, and then it's time for a snooze. I am pretty good at going potty outside. I just need a routine for potty breaks.

My foster mom is amazed at how good I am with the kids (ages 2 and 5). They are gentle with me, and I am patient with them. If I can't be next to my foster mom, I will curl up next to the 5 year old. I am fine with men and women of all ages.

The declawed cat and I have an arrangement. If she runs, I will chase her. If she stops and looks at me, it's my turn to run away. We are now sort-of friends.

Lest you think I am perfect, I do have one minor little itty-bitty fault - I don’t like being left alone. I will bark when the humans leave, but I calm down quickly, and am not at all destructive. I don't like being left in the fenced-in yard alone, either, and will try very hard to get to my humans - even if they are in plain view just on the other side of the gate. I am a master of escape, but only to get to where my humans are!

When I first got to my foster home, I was missing some hair on my back half. See the picture of me then? I sure look and feel a lot better now! I was covered in fleas when my owner dumped me. The fleas are now gone, thank goodness, and my hair is growing back. I am eating grain-free food since I may have food allergies.

Evidently, my owner decided that I was too old for hunting, but I am a great friend. All I want is a person (or family) to love me. My ideal home is one that wants a constant companion. I am petite, and will fit in most any size lap!!! Fostered by Anne in GA.

UPDATE 6/14/11: The Dog-ter found a lump on my behind, and wanted to aspirate it. The results showed that the lump is benign, but the dog-ter thinks it should be removed before it causes me any problems.  I'll be having that surgery soon.
UPDATE 10/11/11: When I came into rescue, I was under-weight, having much hair loss, and with worms. I've been on grain-free dog food and a spoonful of tuna for my coat.  I now have a terrific coat, and might need to loose a pound or two.

I prefer to hang out with my foster mom all day.  I have my spot, and I sleep quite a bit.  I get up to greet my foster mom, runs around (some things are very exciting, you know), and then hang out in my spot again. I am very friendly, and I really enjoy our cuddle time every night. I am good with all people (even small kids!) and am smart enough to sneak away if the kids get too rambunctious. My foster mom is glad that I am patient and calm!

Although I am housetrained, I still need a schedule.  When the schedule changes (which happens), I sometimes still have an accident. I am happiest going outside when my foster mom goes outside, too.

The dog-ter made the bump on my bottom go away (it was nothing bad), and I feel sooo much better. I do have a dark spot on my eye that they are calling a benign ocular melanoma. It doesn’t bother me at all yet, but if it grows, I may have to have surgery.

I am tolerant of other dogs, though I will grumble at some other dogs when we are out and about. The cat and I have become good friends. Go figure!

I really would like to be the only dog so that I can get all the doggy attention, but a cat friend would be good for me so that I am never alone. I just really want people of my very own to love, and a quiet life where I get lots and lots of lovings! Who wouldn’t?
