Thursday update: The vet reported a heavy load of hookworms and a severe flea infestation. He has been treated with Drontal Plus, since he may also have tapeworms because of the fleas, and with CapStar. He may also be dosed with a topical flea and tick control product, pending further assessment.
The vet reported a strong positive for heartworms. Further assessment will be done on Friday. A blood panel will also be run on Friday. Please keep your paws crossed for MORGAN!!
The vet stated that MORGAN is likely full Bench Irish, tall, and only 48 pounds. Once he has been cleaned up, we hope to get more pictures that will show just how skinny he is. He will require a dental, but is not a candidate for anesthesia in his present condition.
Friday update: The vet ran a full chemistry panel with lipase and T-4. All terrific news except for MORGAN being slightly anemic!! The staff reran the heartworm test, this time getting a negative. A third test was run, and it also came back negative. YAAAAAY!!!!
MORGAN will be ready to transfer to a foster home soon, where he will put on some much needed weight, and will be dewormed again. He will receive a dental cleaning when he is deemed healthy enough to tolerate anesthesia. If all goes well, he should be ready for his new forever home in about six weeks!!
