Hi!  My name is MURPHY and I am 4 years old. My foster Mom calls me "Smurphy Murphy" cuz I am soooo cute and lovable!!  I have to have my Foster Mom type for me because of my paws, but I am getting ahead of myself...

When they picked me up, I wasn't looking too good.  A lady in NYC (who didn't get mad about me bleeding in her car!) brought me to my Foster Mom, who took one look at me and said we were going to have to get me to the Dog-ter real fast!!  Boy, did we ZOOM down the highway, and we got there right at closing time on Saturday.  The clinic people wanted to go home, but when they saw me, they all decided to stay so that I could get the help that I needed then and there!!! (and I didn't even have an appointment!!)

I was kinda scared cuz I had never been to a Dog-ter before, but they were very nice to me, except for the needles and stuff.  They ran a TON of tests, and sent me home with LOTS of medicine!!! I have infections in both ears, in both eyes, and on lots of other parts of my body.  In fact, all four paws are so infected that they are bleeding and abcessed, which makes it very painful to walk (they could only get pictures of the tops of my feet, so you can't see that my pads underneath are pushed out because of all the infection).  My lips are also swollen and bleeding, so it is painful to eat.  I also have skin infections on both sides of my rump and on my chest, so lying down is uncomfortable, and under my tail is swollen and bleeding, so I have not wanted to sit, either!  What other options are there??????  Anyway, Mom and her friend Robin gave me a bath with a special shampoo from the clinic to help calm down the skin, and they even cut out all of my mats, so I feel a LOT better now!

When my foster Dad came home, I looked at him with the biggest, saddest eyes I could muster, and he said everything would be alright. My Mom and Dad said that there are nice people in the world, so that Setters like me don't have to suffer.  I hope there are some nice people for me, too!

I'm kinda sad that I'm not allowed to meet the other furkids until all the test results are back and I am better.  I guess that makes sense, since I don't feel very good, and I really don't feel much like playing yet.  Well, I gotta go now.  All this medicine is making me very sleepy...  zzzzzzzzzz...  Fostered by Lisa in CT.

Update 7/2/08:  Boy, do I feel much better!  I am healing nicely, for the most part.  My ears are still an issue, so I will be put under anesthesia on Monday so the Dog-ter can deep clean them and pack them with antibiotics.  I sure will be glad when my ears don't hurt anymore!

I am starting to play some, and really like playing tug.  I am calm most of the time, and am learning manners like not jumping on people.  My foster mom says I will be a great dog with just a little bit of work.  I thought I was pretty great just the way I am!!!
