Hi! I'm OLLIE, a laid back, calm, handsome eight year young Irish Setter. In spite of being retired breeding stock, I am a very gentle boy who will lay down at your feet to be loved on. I am crate trained and am quiet in the house for the most part (though every once in a while I feel the need to confer my wisdom to others having a conversation). I am working on house manners since, like most breeding stock, I was an outside only dog.
I am currently taking meds to help my skin and sores heal. When I first came into rescue, I was infested with colonies of ticks and had evidence of a recent flea infestation, both of which were surprising since the breeder's website states, "Dogs... need supervision and someone to depend on every single day for all their needs". Hopefully, buyers of puppies originating in southern Illinois will check the puppies thoroughly for fleas and ticks when they arrive, and will have fecal tests and tick panels done by their vets a few weeks after they arrive.
The dog-ter told my foster family that I will need to have a dental and possibly some teeth extracted because they are in bad shape. That will come later. The more immediate issues were to get me current on all of my vaccines and fix the skin infections from the fleas and the matted hair, especially between my toes.
I love to be petted and given attention and will thump my tail when you talk to me. My idea of the ideal forever family is one who will be patient with me, as new routines and places are scary for me and I will leak a bit when frightened. My foster family has been understanding and has been showing me that new stuff is not all bad. Stay tuned for updates as I get better. Fostered by Cheryl and Doug in WI.
