Hi, my name is PEPPER and I'm about one and a half years old. I'm a little girl, and cute as a button.  Oh, and I'm as sweet as can be, too!

I came to rescue shortly after being hit by a car, and have been favoring my right rear leg.  My foster dad took me to the dog-ter as soon as the clinic opened the next morning.  I go back on Monday for a nap. While I'm asleep, the dog-ter is going to try to pop my hip back where it belongs.  Hopefully, it will work; otherwise, I'll have to have surgery to put it back in place.  Either way, I will be learning all about being crated while I heal.  It isn't be easy for an exuberant girl like me to be calm and follow dog-ter's orders!  I am just glad that was all the damage done by that car.

Once I am off restricted activity, my foster dad will learn more about me.  He's promised to share it with you, so let me know if he doesn't so I can turn the charm on high.  He and I both know that I deserve the bestest forever home ever!  Fostered by Jim in MI.

UPDATE 4/1: The dog-ter tried to pop my hip back, but the injury was too old.  SOS is sending my file and x-rays to an orthopedic surgeon so that he can help them determine the best course of action.

In the meantime, I get to play and run around.  My foster dad is amazed at how smart I am.  It only took me a few days to figure out how to ring the bell to go outside!

Here is a picture of one of my x-rays.  I hope you can see it pretty well.  We're awaiting the orthopedic surgeon's recommendation as to what procedure should be done to fix the problem.  Only then will we be able to estimate the costs.  Stay tuned!!!

UPDATE 5/6: Two specialists and three vets later, we finally have a consensus!  PEPPER II will have an FHO followed by physical therapy.

As you know, orthopedic surgery is not cheap! The economy has had its impact on us, just like everyone else.  Your continuing support of the dogs in our program is necessary in order for us to provide for the dogs with more costly medical issues!!
Vetting and surgeries:$    1,500
Physical Therapy        800

PEPPER says THANKS!!
UPDATE 5/26: Okay, I am NOT happy with my haircut! Can you believe what they did to my beautiful coat? Sigh... I sure hope that it grows back quickly!!

I got my sutures out today, and have another week of crate rest followed by two weeks of limited activity. After that, the dog-ter will evaluate my progress and will lay out the plan for physical therapy.

The dog-ter, though seemingly unconcerned with my embarrassment due to the lack of hair, is very pleased with my progress. He watched as I walked all around the clinic, and was excited that I am putting some weight on that leg. DUH!!! That's what it's there for, Doc! He didn't appear to be too excited that I put weight on the other three legs, though. These hoo-mans are really strange...

I told them that I am raring to go, but they totally ignored me. I'll tell them again at my next visit. Perhaps they'll listen to me then.

The SOS folks are getting a bit concerned about finances. I would get a job to help pay for my vet bills, but I'm still under house arrest. Do you think maybe you could help out? I bet the SOS folks would appreciate knowing that you are supportive of what they are doing for me! Who knows? If they get enough to cover my surgeries and physical therapy, they might buy me some Rogaine!
Soooo... How did PEPPER II do?
See for yourself!!!
