Hi, my name is RIDGE and I'm about two years old. I'm a very tall boy, as you can see in the pictures. I'm also very sweet, and I know a lot of commands. Like most Irish Setters, I do have Selective Hearing Disorder, but that is readily cured if treats are involved!
I love people and other dogs. Cats are okay, but they don't like to play with a big, high energy boy like me.
The dog-ter has been running tests and talking with specialists to try to determine why I lose weight when eating the correct amount for my body. Personally, I prefer when she talks to the other dog-ters, as I was beginning to feel like a pin cushion! It's a good thing my body makes lots of blood.
Anyway, all the tests have all come back negative so far (YAAAY!), so we are now working with a nutritionist to make sure I am getting and utilizing everything my body needs. I've gained several pounds, so the SOS folks are now cautiously optimistic that I will continue to do well with the special food and supplements.
In addition to playing with other dogs, I love to play fetch, and will even bring the ball back for you to throw it again! I could play all day long if they would let me, but they want to limit the number of calories I burn until I get a few more pounds on my frame.

UPDATE 5/5/10: Guess what? All the tests have come back as normal. My dog-ter has talked with a lot of other dog-ters, and I am now on a special diet and supplements as recommended by a real doggy nutritionist. It's really yummy, so I don't mind. I also have been know to steal the remainder of the other dogs' dinners, but I won't tell if you won't!
Anyway, I've been putting on some weight - YAAAY!! It will be a few months before the dog-ter will know for certain if the special diet and supplements are going to work long-term, so it will be a while before I'll be ready for my new forever home.

UPDATE 8/12/10: YIPPEE!! The folks at SOS told me that they wouldn't give up on me, and they didn't! It took a while, but they finally found a combination that seems to be working well. I've been gaining weight gradually over the past several weeks. It's important for the weight to be put on slowly so that it is healthy for me, you know!
I've been eating ProPlan Lamb and Rice dry food, and I also get Fortiflora with my dinner. My dog-ter says Fortiflora has played a major role in helping to correct and maintain my weight, so my new forever home should be aware that I really need it if I am to continue to make progress. I also don't get to help the other dogs with their dinners cuz their food could mess me up again. She said something about allergies, but I'm not real sure I get it cuz I've not been sneezing or anything like that.
I am also getting more exercise. It'll be our secret that I made my very own giant doggy door on the (formerly) screened-in porch. I can't help it - a young active boy like me has got to get his exercise! Truth be told, I figured that my foster mom needed the exercise, so I let her chase me around for a bit before we came home. Did you know hoo-mans can pant just like we doggies do?
Anyway, my foster mom says I'll be ready to travel to my new forever home very soon, so all I have to do now is figure out what lucky family will get to adopt me!
