Hi, my name is RILEY GIRL III and I'll have my fourth bithday December 25th. It's a bummer having a birthday on Christmas day, so I'm hoping my new forever home will celebrate half-birthdays. Of course, toys and treats any time of year is fine, too!
I was surrendered by my owner because I was too energetic, but she wasn't able to provide me with the exercise I needed due to her own health issues. My foster mom lets me run around a lot with the other dogs, and I have been well-behaved cuz I'm worn out! Once I've been out for a jaunt, I just want to be with my human.
I get along very well with other dogs. I know how to introduce myself properly to them, and never show any teeth. I will take their toys, but won't chew them. I haven't met any cats here, but when I go on walks I'd love to chase all of the squirrels, birds, and rabbits! If a cat were to run, I'd probably chase it. I don't know what I would do if I were to catch it, though. I am housetrained and crate trained.
Although I've jumped the 2 1/2 foot child gate (easily) to get to my foster mom, I've not tried to scale the 4 1/2 foot fence outside, probably cuz all of the fun stuff is inside the fence! If my human is on the other side, I'll whine a bit, but I just want to be with her.
I will get exuberant if I don't get enough exercise or am simply stimulated too much. I'm about 75 pounds, so when I get excited, I can jump on or bump into you, though sometimes I'll just mouth a hand or paw for attention. If my human stays calm and makes sure I get enough exercise, I am an amazing dog (at least that is what my foster mom says). If I'm asked to do a little work (like sitting for food, sitting to go out, sitting for a pat), I get it fast! I've already learned to sit for attention, and I'll even sit for the children.
Children are wonderful, and I am gentle with them (they are just more hands for petting, right?). I may knock them over when I get too excited, so bumps and bruises are to be expected. I have a soft mouth and will take treats gently. I will pull on the leash if allowed to, but if we stop moving when I pull, I learn fast that pulling just gets me to stop, not go, and I want to go!! Fostered by Amy in PA.
