Hi, my name is RUSTY and I'm nine years old. I've not had the best care in the past, but you'd never know it by my demeanor. I'm super sweet and gentle as can be!  I get along well with other dogs and am fine with kids, too.

So, how did a nice boy like me wind up in a shelter and in need of rescue, you ask? Well, guys do end to wander in search of a pretty girl dog sometimes, I had been picked up as a stray before. My owner could not afford to keep me properly vetted, nor could he afford the shelter fees to spring me, and he certainly was not in a position to provide a fence to keep me safe

Before him, I had an owner who did provide for me, but she gave me away after I was hit by a car. I supposedly have pins in both rear legs from that experience.

I've got a great dog-ter who will be checking me out very thoroughly. They already know I have stinky ears and a stinky mouth, so those things will be addressed in the proper order. Oh, and he will take care of my need to wander in search of pretty girls, too.

Before he does any anesthesic procedures, he is going to give me a full ortho/neuro exam to make sure I don't have any problems from my previous encounter with the car, including taking me on the staircase. He says first things first, though, so getting me current on everything I am lacking, testing me for heartworms and other nasty parasites, and running a geriatric panel... now wait just one minute! I'm not geriatric!! Oh, I see... you just want to make sure I am healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. Just as long as you're not calling me old, that's okay.

UPDATE 5/5/10: Guess what? The geriatric panel has been run, and it says I'm NOT old! Is that kewl or what! Not so kewl is that I will be having surgery this week, and the dog-ter says I'll have to have several teeth pulled, likely six or so. He says my mouth will hurt more for a little while, but will feel better than it does now in about a week.

He says my ear is looking much better, too. I could have told him that, cuz it sure feels better, and it doesn't stink as much!

He put this cold round thing that was attached to the sides of his head against my chest. He said there was a slight murmur, but nothing to be concerned about, and that my lungs sounded really clear. What's that, you say? It was a stethoscope, and it was in his ears? Oh, c'mon! You can't fool me! I know what ears look like (I have two, ya know), and those don't look anything like mine!

Anyway, it won't be long before I'll be ready for my new forever home. I can hardly wait to have a human of my very own again!
