Hi, my name is SAMMY and I am 3 years old. I’ve been in my foster home for about five weeks now, and we have had two blizzards. Boy, was that fun! I got to run and frolic in the snow with my foster sister KATIE, while mom cleaned off the driveway. I love to eat snow! My foster mom keeps telling me “don’t eat the yellow stuff !” (What does that mean?)
I’m totally housetrained (no accidents the whole time I’ve been here) and I’m really good in the house when mom goes to work. She kisses us goodbye and says, “guard the house”. This is a job I’m made for cuz I have a really loud bark - the kind that says, “Beware! There’s a really big dog living here” (except I’m not that big – only 65 lbs). KATIE and I just lay around the house all day. I don’t have to go into a crate or anything.
When mom comes home, we all go for a long walk - 2 or 3 miles. Mom walks and we RUN! That kind of wears me out for the rest of the night and it becomes the best time to work on obedience skills. We have been working on sit, stay, come, and lie down. I’m getting good with sit, stay, and come – if we’re in the house and there is food involved! I just follow KATIE's lead. When we are outside for our run and I spot a rabbit, deer, or ducks, it’s kinda all over cuz my foster mom says I develop “tunnel vision” (whatever that is?). So, we are working on loose leash training. I like to go faster than mom does and so I just urge her along by pulling a little bit. She says that’s going to change.
Bad habits... me? Well, maybe a few. If you leave the garbage out and go away, it’s my responsibility to check it out. I used to countersurf at my old home, but not here. I’m also very good at climbing fences. I’ve done this a few times, but I don’t go too far away because I know where my food, water, and lovings come from.
I love to snuggle and be petted. I’ll lay down beside you on the couch all evening. If you have to work at the table or on the computer then I will just lay at your feet and be happy there. If you feel the need to brush someone, then I’m your boy! I’ll lie still and let you do that til the cows come home (not that we have any cows living in the house).
I'm just an all-around good dog, playmate, snuggle buddy, and companion, especially if you like to take long walks and enjoy nature with me.
