Hi, my name is SCARLET and I'm about eight years old. I'm a sweet girl, and made lots and lots of puppies for my several owners in Missouri. Thankfully, that's all behind me now, and none too soon!
You see, I was not acting right - just laying around kinda lethargic like - so they took me to the dog-ter right away. My pulse was thready, and my heart rate was only 44 bpm. No wonder I didn't feel like doing anything!
The x-rays showed possible issues with both my heart and my lungs, so the dog-ter ran them over to Mizzou for the radiologist there to read. He said my lungs were fine, but he thought we should consider having a Color Doppler Echocardiogram done to make sure my heart didn't have any issues inside where they couldn't see. I have an appointment for Monday. Fostered by Ann in MO.
UPDATE 5/13/09: The cardiologist checked me over really well, and didn't feel that there was anything unusual for a heart that is eight years old. My heart rate was between 70 and 90 bpm (I was a little stressed when we first got there), and my pulse was strong.
Needless to say, I tried to tell her that ALL Irish Setters have unusual hearts, 'cuz they are all bigger than Texas!! She didn't act like she understood what I was 'rooing'. Oh, well. Maybe someday she will be owned by an Irish Setter, at which time she will figure it out on her own.
