Hi, my name is WILMA and I'm six years old. Don’t let the white hair on my face fool you! It is just premature graying, and I think it makes me look dignified. My hair dresser says they don’t have Irish Red as a color option, sooooo... What’s a girl to do? (sigh) I do have lots and lots of energy!
I do fine with my foster brother JACKSON, who was also a rescue dog and is in his forever home here. He told me all about how great the Irish Setter Rescue people are and how they take such good care of us, and so I settled in to my foster home pretty good here. They have cats here, but they don’t agree with me that they need PE class (which consists of JACKSON and me chasing them). Darn fat cats!
My foster family has crate trained me, taught me to sit and shake, and we are working on other commands. I had some house-training issues when I first came here, but I worked very hard on that and haven't had an accident in a very long time! I am doing better on the leash but there are so so so many things to smell when I go outside for a walk like birds, chipmunks, and even deer. Naturally, I get a bit excited and my Irish nature wants to check out all of the smells, from as close as possible!!
Oh yeah, I learned something else here, too. Boy, do love to go for rides in my foster dad’s jeep and truck. We get to go places, not just for a ride. The two nice ladies at the hardware store get on the floor and play with both my foster brother and me, and they give us treats!
I also do very well with the humans here. My foster grandma thinks I am great, my foster human sisters gush all over me, my foster aunt loves me, and as my foster dad calls him my “once removed foster uncle,” likes me too. The only problem is that I have not figured out this “once removed” business yet. My foster mom thinks I never learned to play. I have learned about toys and balls and all of the fun they are. I now like catching toys and balls, playing tug of war, and all of those neat things!
I went to a dog-ter who gave me all my shots and checked me over real good. All is fine with me. I did come into heat shortly after I came here, so the dog-ter said I had to wait to be spayed. I have had three litters of Irish kids (I used to live in a breeding kennel), and I am so glad to be taking an early retirement from that career! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
A few weeks after I got here, my foster mom got sick and was home for a few weeks. I was a terrific nurse and companion to her and she helped me a with my house training. She is now back to work and guess what? I DON’T HAVE TO STAY IN THE CAGE ANYMORE WHEN SHE GOES TO WORK!!!!!!! I am trusted with the run of the house when foster mom and dad are gone - no accidents, no chewing, no getting in the garbage, no "bad doggie" stuff at all. I'm just a perfect girl watching the house alone. Foster dad says I am holding down the couch or big chair during the time the humans are gone, but all the rest of us know what an important job it is for me to protect the house. Nobody is gonna break in and steal my dinner bowl, dog food, or toys!
I will make someone a great friend and companion. I love one-on-one time, and will curl up with you on the couch, lay at your feet, or just stick to you like glue. I need additional work on-leash and more obedience training, but foster mom, dad, and sisters are working on that with me. Oh yeah, did I mention I love to ride? I do pretty good with people I don’t know, but I make sure to sound the alarm when someone comes to visit.
I was so slow on getting my profile here cuz foster dad has been busy, foster mom was sick, and it has taken quite a while to get me ready to look for a forever home. I know it says adoption pending but I want to put this up just in case things don’t work out, but also so the other orphan Irish kids can read this and see how great the rescue people are all over. Actually, what happened here is when my foster dad suggested to my foster mom that I would be ready to find a new forever home very soon, my foster mom looked at him and said I should stay here. Sooooo, foster mom is deciding. She got pretty attached to me when I was her nurse, it seems.
